MARE OSCURA KELP BALTIC PORTER

Tasting Notes: Mare Oscuro, or Dark Sea in Italian, highlights the terroir of coastal British Columbia. In collaboration with our friend North Pacific Kelp, we utilized four different varieties of kelp locally sourced from Haida Gwaii to create a unique take on a classic Baltic Porter. Made for the winter, this high strength porter was adopted by the Baltic countries from England who began fermenting with lager yeast as it was well suited for the colder climates. The use of kelp in both the mash and whirlpool provides a distinct sea-like saltiness and earthy aromatics with a pleasant minerality. Dive into aromas of dark chocolate covered cherries and sea foam with a robust malt character and bask in the flavours of salted toffee and medium roasted coffee with an expressive umami character. From the Baltic Sea to the beaches of Haida Gwaii, Mare Oscuro is shore to be your fireside companion through the coming dark days of winter.

Tasting Notes: The name takes inspiration from one of our favourite Japanese Lagers, which translates to “Morning Light” and this beer truly is sunshine in a glass! This beer underwent a cereal mash in the kettle with high quality Haiga rice from our friends down the road, Fujiya. The addition of the rice lightens the body and adds a unique grain character, making this beer incredibly crisp and refreshing. Lagered long and cold and naturally carbonated, Luce boasts aromas of petrichor, honey, and a restrained herbal tea hop character.

MAIZE RUNNER
West Coast Pale Ale

Tasting Notes: Made with barley and corn, which adds a perceived sweetness that balances the bitterness nicely. Aromas of fresh citrus peel with a piney resinous character. Flavours of tangerine and grapefruit with a bright, clean, crisp and refreshing finish.

NOTTURNA CZECH DARK LAGER

Tasting Notes: Notturna, or nocturnal, is a beer inspired by long nights and those who live for them. Whether you find yourself dancing the night away or camping under the stars, this beer is your perfect companion. This beer evolved into a true Czech dark lager through the use of bohemian malt, an enhanced decoction mash, and a large charge of Saaz hops. It pours a dark chocolate brown with a lasting, creamy head. Let the aromas of walnut, pumpernickel and caramelized fig awaken the flavours of milk chocolate and herbal spice, with a subtle roasted character and clean finish. Natural carbonation and a full body leave you both satisfied and wanting more.
