We were extremely excited to release our can-conditioned Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stouts with various adjuncts. These small run cans were a real labour of love for our brewers; the beer itself was aged for 6 months and each of the adjuncts was carefully selected, hand-processed, and blended with the beer to produce approximately 350 unique cans of each. This was a time consuming and laborious undertaking, but we were happy to do it as we were genuinely excited to share these unique beers with our customers!
At the time of packaging, these beers were tasting great, however, it has since developed in a way we certainly didn’t foresee and is now at a point where it simply doesn’t meet our quality standards. At some point these beers were unintentionally inoculated with a strain of Brettanomyces that thrived in the environment of higher residual sugar and developed further in the cans as these beers were can-conditioned as are all of the beers we package. We at Luppolo love to experiment with multiple strains of Brettanomyces as well as Lactobacillus and Pediococcus, although we have rigorous standards of practice to prevent cross contamination, on rare occasions we are unsuccessful. While the beer is completely safe to consume, we feel it doesn’t represent the original intention of this beer release and we have decided to recall it.
As such, we would like you to bring it back for a full refund. Our priority is customer satisfaction and we appreciate the feedback we got as it helped us to identify the issue. We will continue our path of producing high quality small batch beers for our wonderful customer base to enjoy.
For a refund, please return your full or empty cans or provide a proof of purchase (sales receipt, credit card statement, bank statement) at the brewery. Thanks for your understanding and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
